Definition
- Dyslipidemia is a major modifiable cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor encompassing elevations in total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides (TG), and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). In addition, novel lipid and lipoprotein markers such as lipoprotein particle size and number, apolipoproteins, and TG-rich lipoproteins are emerging as risk factors that contribute to CVD risk.
