- The increasing use of the Internet by children and adolescents in the 1990s was viewed with cautious skepticism by parents and scholars alike, with questions being raised about addiction, social isolation, and consumption of age-inappropriate content, among other negative effects. But recent research suggests that Internet use is not always harmful and that the new medium can have a number of positive uses.
