Definition
- A term used in sociology to describe the changes in modern society. Broadly these are the decline of the industrial sector; the associated decline of the working class; the decline in unionization and the decline in occupation as a source of identity; and the weakening of the rigid distinction between public and private sectors, with their associated gender division of labour.
