- Psychosis is a state in which one loses contact with reality. Originating from either mental or physical conditions, its symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech or behavior, and a decrease or loss of normal functions. [Source: Encyclopedia of Social Problems; Psychoses]
