Preferred term
reducing prison populations
Definition
- The challenge of reducing prison populations has only recently become an issue in the realm of criminal justice. The issue has become prominent largely because of the financial crises that many states have encountered, in part because of the immense costs associated with incarcerating the increasing numbers of newly sentenced offenders.
