- Responsiveness lies at the heart of many important relationship processes and plays a vital role in any human relationships involving effective communication, caregiving, social support, mentoring, and leadership. Definition and measurement of responsiveness vary depending on the relationship context; however, most definitions encompass interaction partners behaving in a warm, sensitive manner that is contingent on and supportive of the other person's needs, emotional states, and circumstances.
