Definition
- Upon release from incarceration, certain offenders may require assistance to help facilitate a smooth reintegration into society, where they are expected to become both law-abiding and productive citizens in their communities and, depending on the offense committed, to pay restitution to the victims or other parties affected by their crimes. In order to prepare the offender for reentry to society and reduce the probability of recidivism, some facilities may provide counseling and life-training opportunities to offenders while they are serving their sentences, whereas others may provide ongoing assistance following release.
