risk behaviors: physical inactivity

Definition

  • Physical inactivity is lack of regular ambulation or movement that does not raise one's metabolic rate above baseline and may lead to diminished health status. Physical inactivity is important in K–12 education because there has been a decreased focus on physical education (PE) and other school activities that promote physical fitness in the school environment.
