  • Over the last 4 decades, the increasing rate of childhood obesity has generated a great deal of concern nationwide, and has been a factor in recent efforts to encourage children to walk or ride their bicycles to school. Since the 1960s, the prevalence of childhood obesity in the United States has risen from approximately 5% of children to nearly 18% today.
