Definition
- Sentencing guidelines represent a system for structuring the punishments received by convicted offenders. Typically, sentencing guidelines will note both a minimum and a maximum recommended punishment that is based on the severity of the current offense, on the severity of the offender's prior record, or on both offense and prior record.
