Definition
- Various types of prehistoric evidence indicate that humans have skied on snow in some way or another for thousands of years in many parts of the globe, where the weather conditions required such a mode of transport. Norse legends describe a giant goddess of ski, Skadi, who donned a helmet and mail to avenge the death of her father. [Source: Encyclopedia of Play in Today's Society; Skiing]
