Definition
- Social intelligence was first defined by the psychologist Edward L. Thorndike in 1920 as the ability to think and act wisely in social situations, and to understand and manage people. In a general sense, social intelligence can be viewed as intelligence that is derived from experience with people and from experience and success in social settings—what might popularly be referred to as common sense, tact, or street smarts.
