student housing cooperatives
Definition
- A student housing cooperative is an organization of students who own and operate their own residence in a democratic fashion, following internationally recognized cooperative principles. Primarily a phenomenon on college campuses in the United States and Canada, student housing cooperatives are an outgrowth of the cooperative movement of mid-nineteenth-century Great Britain and the principles forged by the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers.
