- Tamarins are one of 16 species of small New World monkeys grouped in two genera: Leontopithecus and Saguinus. They belong to the subfamily Callitrichinae, which also includes their smaller counterparts, the marmosets (Callithrix, Cebuella, and Mico) and Goeldi's monkeys (Callimico).
