Definition
- A teletype (teleprinter, teletypewriter, or TTY for TeleTYpe/TeleTYpewriter) is a now obsolete electro-mechanical typewriter which can be used to communicate typed messages from point to point through a simple electrical communications channel, line or wireless. The most modern form of these devices was fully electronic and used a visual display unit with a hard copy printer. [Source: Encyclopedia of Journalism; Teletype]
