- Psychiatry is the branch of medicine that is concerned with the study, prevention, and treatment of mental disorder (aka mental illness and psychopathology). Transcultural psychiatry is an increasingly important specialty of psychiatry that focuses on cultural aspects of mental disorder and psychiatric practice.
