Concept information
Preferred term
underemployed workers
Definition
- Underemployment occurs when a worker is employed below his or her working capacity and in a job that is in some way suboptimal given his or her education and experience. It can be relatively objectively determined, as in comparing one's education to that required by the job, or subjectively determined, as when a worker perceives him- or herself as overqualified.
