Preferred term
urban vote
Definition
- SINCE THE NEW Deal era, the urban electorate has played a role in the outcome of presidential elections. The size and political importance of this electorate grew as a result of the mass migration of people from the countryside into the city; this made cities across the country the most concentrated areas of political support available to political parties.
