world-mindedness and global citizenship
Definition
- Until recently, citizenship referred to a set of dispositions held by persons socialized and educated in the values and political structures of the nation-state where they reside. Indeed, mass public education was promoted in nation-states to ensure assimilation of immigrants from across the world and their allegiance (patriotism) to the new nation of residence rather than their countries of origin.
