Preferred term

film industry workers

Definition

  • Film industry workers—actors, directors, writers, musicians, and cinematographers, among others—are employed within an industry that relies upon human creativity in order to produce cultural texts that entertain and inform. Novelty and originality are defining aspects of the creative labor of culture industries, and the inherent tension between the artistic demands of the creative process and the goals of a commercialized mass culture industry pose particular challenges for workers who must balance standards of quality with pragmatic concerns.
