  • Ansar al Islam (in English, Partisans of Islam) is a Sunni insurgent group of Kurdish origin operating primarily in northern Iraq, especially the governorates of Sulaymaniyah and Ninawa. Ansar al Islam holds to a Salafist worldview, which insists on a puritanical form of Islam and seeks to emulate the practices of the Prophet Muhammad and his companions.
