  • Iran-Contra was a political scandal in the mid-1980s during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. From the beginning of his first term in office, President Reagan and his administration had been supporting and funding rebel contras (counter-revolutionaries) in their fight against the Sandinistas for political power in Nicaragua.
