busing

Definition

  • Busing is the term used to describe a process in which school districts used altered school bus routes to facilitate the racial desegregation of public schools in the United States. Segregated housing patterns, whether de jure or de facto in older cities, made genuine attempts to implement court-ordered desegregation in neighborhood public schools difficult.
