career ladders

Definition

  • Inequality in access to careers versus jobs persists, despite changing to more “flexible” work and social relations since the 1970s. Careers are defined as full-time (i.e., at least 40 hours per week), uninterrupted work (i.e., the worker does not move in and out of the career), with opportunities for upward movement on career ladders.
