dead-end jobs

Definition

  • A dead-end job is a job that pays low wages and does not promote the upward mobility of workers, either through a career ladder or through the accumulation of skills that lead to advancement in other jobs. As a result, the only way for a worker to move up is to move out, by securing a different job with a different firm. [Source: Sociology of Work: An Encyclopedia; Dead-End Jobs]
