  • The Inventory of Drinking Situations (IDS) was developed by Helen Annis and colleagues at the Addiction Research Foundation in Toronto, Canada. The IDS draws its theoretical basis from Alan Marlatt's eight categories of high-risk drinking situations and is intended to provide an individualized profile of a problem drinker's particular high-risk situations that can then be used to structure and guide treatment.The IDS is available in two forms.
