Definition

  • Mediation is defined as a structured method of conflict resolution in which trained individuals, called mediators (impartial third parties), assist people in dispute (the parties) by listening, facilitating communication, and promoting voluntary decision making by the parties in dispute. Peer mediation grew out of the wider mediation movement, with the trained mediator being a fellow student (or students). [Source: Encyclopedia of Victimology and Crime Prevention; Peer Mediation]
