social justice teacher education

Definition

  • Social justice teacher education programs aim to prepare teachers with the knowledge, dispositions, and practices for teaching all students, for advocating not only for change within their own classrooms but for the transformation of whole schools and districts, and for viewing their efforts as teachers as connected to and part of larger movements for justice and equity. Over the past 40 years, the number of university-sponsored teacher education programs focused on preparing teachers from a social justice perspective has increased in the United States.
