- Dubbed by newspapers as “the nation's first lesbian serial killer,” the “lesbian whose hatred of men caused her to murder again and again,” and the “Damsel of Death,” Aileen “Lee” Wuornos murdered and robbed seven white, middle-aged men in north and central Florida during a period of 13 months in 1989 and 1990. At this time Wuornos, a prostitute of nearly 20 years, was a so-called exit-to-exit hooker who picked up customers along interstate highways.
