Definition

  • The Federal Insecticide Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) allows the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate the manufacture, sale, and application of pesticides to protect human health and the environment. FIFRA requires registration of pesticides, specifies the label to be placed on pesticides, provides for postregistration review of pesticide registrations and possible suspension or cancellation of those registrations, imposes restrictions on pesticide containers and specifies containment structures for stored pesticides, establishes standards to protect workers, and provides for enforcement of regulatory requirements through civil and criminal penalties.
