Definition

  • THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) is a not-for-profit organization whose objectives are to advance research focused on medical problems relating to thrombosis, hemostasis, and vascular biology; to provide a forum for discussion of these topics; to foster the exchange of ideas and diffusion of research regarding these topics; and to encourage the standardization of nomenclature and methodology in thrombosis and hemostasis. The origins of the ISTH lie in the first meeting of the International Committee for the Standardization of the Nomenclature of the Blood Clotting Factors in Basel, Switzerland, in 1954.
