Definition

  • On December 8, 2003, President George W. Bush signed into law the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003, or MMA. This legislation was the most significant expansion of the nation's Medicare program since its inception in 1965. The MMA provides seniors and individuals with disabilities with voluntary prescription drug coverage, referred to as Medicare Part D. The new coverage began on January 1, 2006.
