  • The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) conducts research on the causes, diagnoses, prevention, and treatment of neurological (brain and spinal cord) disorders and strokes; provides grants for public and private institutions to conduct relevant research; trains new researchers; and shares information about neurological disorders with collaborators, governmental agencies, and the general public. NINDS, formed in 1950, is one of 27 National Institutes of Health (NIH) established by Congress.
