Robert K. Merton

Definition

  • From the start to the finish of a long life, Merton had an immense effect on sociology though his work is better known than his name. His doctoral thesis (1970) (published in 1938 as Science, Technology and Society in 17th-century England) helped establish the sociological study of science as a legitimate exercise.
