- Stephen William Hawking, probably the best-known physicist since Albert Einstein, is Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University. Hawking's work with the more exotic areas of theoretical physics and his best-selling book A Brief History of Time have earned him a place in the public eye as well as in his own chosen world of physics.
