Definition
- A prime objective of preparticipation screening for athletics is to identify cardiovascular abnormalities that can cause sudden death. Congenital heart defects most commonly associated with sudden death include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, coronary artery anomalies, Marfan syndrome, and aortic valve disease.
