Definition
- A combination of solar cosmic rays and much higher energy galactic cosmic rays which strike the Earth from all directions. The latter are the high-speed subatomic particles, mostly protons, that are responsible for the production of cosmogenic nuclides both in the atmosphere (e.g. [Source: Encyclopedia of Environmental Change; cosmic radiation]
