Preferred term
covenant marriage
Definition
- In response to the proliferation of divorce, and because of harm done to women (and children) in no-fault divorce, the idea of covenant marriage was developed and successfully pursued legislatively in the state of Louisiana in 1997. The idea was not new, having been debated in France in 1947. [Source: Cultural Sociology of Divorce: An Encyclopedia; Covenant Marriage]
