  • African Americans and Latinos are overrepresented in the U.S. criminal justice system. Although each group makes up about 13% of the U.S. population, African Americans account for about 40% of all state and federal prisoners, and Latinos, who can be of any race, make up about 20% of all state and federal prisoners.
