  • Seventy to 80 percent, or approximately 400 million, of the world's disabled people live in the developing world and of the world's poorest of the poor, 20 percent are disabled. The number of people with disability in developing countries is increasing due to poverty, malnutrition, violent conflict, HIV/AIDS, traffic accidents, work-related injuries, and “lifestyle diseases” such as heart disease and diabetes.
