Preferred term

governmental influences on education

Definition

  • The function or purpose of education systems has been an issue for debate throughout history, and in particular in modern times, when some forms of education have become compulsory and increasingly funded by public money. The increase in the use of taxation to pay for education naturally leads to a parallel increase in political involvement in not only how education should be resourced, but also how it should be constructed, and what purpose it should have.
