  • Greenhouse gases (GHGs), in the order of their relative abundance, include water vapor, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, nitrous oxide, hydro-fluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). They retain infrared radiation in the atmosphere, warm the Earth's surface and lower part of the atmosphere, contribute to the greenhouse effect, and maintain balanced warming of the Earth.
