- Few other public policy problems have generated so much discussion and fear than has street crime in the United States. Although present in smaller towns and rural locations, illegal activity is typically associated with America's cities with the largest populations like Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Street crime is part of the steady daily diet of subjects that many of our news media and cultural industries (e.g., movies, fiction, etc.) use to attract audiences.
