Preferred term

poverty and climate change

Definition

  • Poverty and climate change are inextricably linked; it is likely that the greatest effects of climate change will be on rural and urban populations that have the least access to the world's resources. This is because poor populations are already extremely vulnerable to environmental risks and hazards and have limited resources at their disposal to allow them to cope with the impacts of climate change.
