public safety canada

Definition

  • Public Safety Canada (PSC) was created in 2003 to ensure coordination across all federal departments and agencies responsible for national security and the safety of Canadian citizens, but it did not become legally established until the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Act came into force in 2005. With its headquarters in Ottawa, PSC develops national policy, standards, and response systems in order to reduce the impact of a wide range of crises, including natural disasters, industrial accidents, terrorism, and computer viruses.
