starbucks employment model

Definition

  • Working at the coffee giant Starbucks was, according to one of its more than 150,000 employees worldwide, a “decent shit job.” What she meant was that a job at Starbucks was not like working as an engineer, an advertising executive, or a software specialist; she meant it was a lot like a McJob. The work was tedious, hot, and backbreaking. [Source: Sociology of Work: An Encyclopedia; Starbucks Employment Model]
