Siedlung

Definition

  • The German word Siedlung generally refers to a human settlement, whether rural or urban, permanent, short term, or seasonal. But in Central Europe from the late 1800s into the 1930s, the term acquired a specific meaning as modernist architects and planners designed housing colonies for workers and their families that were called Siedlungen (the German plural form of the term).
