National Healthcare Disparities Report

Definition

  • The National Healthcare Disparities Report (NHDR) is a comprehensive overview of the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in the access to and quality of healthcare in the nation's general population; among priority populations including women, children, the elderly, racial and ethnic minority groups, low-income groups, and residents of rural areas; and for individuals with special healthcare needs, including the disabled, people in need of long-term care, and people requiring end-of-life care. The federal Healthcare Research and Quality Act of 1999 directed the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to develop an annual NHDR to provide a summary of the state of healthcare disparities in the United States.
