  • C. Wickham Skinner first introduced the concept of “focused factories” in a 1974 article in the Harvard Business Review. In this seminal article, Skinner, a Harvard Business School professor, applied the concept of focused factories to manufacturers in the United States, which at the time were experiencing a productivity crisis.
