  • THE FEDERAL VOTING Assistance Act of 1955 established a special office in the Department of Defense to encourage and track voting participation among military members. The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) of 1986 repealed both the 1955 act, and the Overseas Voting Rights Act of 1975.
